The Life of St. Teresa of Jesus, of the Order of Our Lady of Carmel, Written by Herself

Teresa's account, written at her confessors' command, of her childhood, her entry into the Carmelite convent at Ávila, years of illness and divided prayer, and her conversion to a life of mental prayer; at its centre is her teaching on the four degrees of prayer, pictured as four ways of watering a garden, followed by her visions and the founding of St. Joseph's, the first house of her reform. Lewis's translation, with Zimmerman's introduction and notes.
